World Champion Jet Ski Racer | Founder | Since 1997
Tommy "The Bomber" Bonacci is a World Champion Jet Ski Racer, winning the world championship in 1989, 1990, 1995 and more recently making his comeback with back to back wins in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Back in the 90's, Tommy worked construction jobs when he wasn't racing jetskis. He found the safety glasses that were given to him on these job sites were extremely uncomfortable and just not cool-looking.
So he grabbed some foam from his jet ski, lined his shades, and accidentally invented something that was super comfortable and that floats!
Safety glasses on construction sites were extremely uncomfortable and just not cool-looking. Sunglasses would sink the second they hit water. Why was this so hard?
Tommy took a pair of sunglasses from his jetski sponsors and lined them with torn-off pieces of foam padding from his jetski seat. They were extremely comfortable — and the very first prototype for Bomber Eyewear was made.
He wore them to the jobsite and immediately started getting compliments on his rad-looking safety glasses. Not only did they look cool, but they were comfortable too. He started selling them out of his backpack.
Bomber Eyewear was born. Not from a business plan — from a guy who was tired of the uncomfortable and ugly glasses on and off the job.
EXCLUSIVE
LEGEND
No marketing speak. No corporate script. Just the real story from the man who started it all — from racing waves to building a brand that's lasted more than 20 years.
"We never planned to be a company. We just solved a problem."
California Grown, Family Always.

Tommy didn't just race jet skis — he dominated the sport. Multiple world championships across decades. A comeback story for the ages.
In 2008, he was inducted into the Jet Ski Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest to ever do it.
Some legends retire. Tommy just kept winning.
Tommy wins his first jet ski world championship. By day he races, by night he builds.
Tommy patented his idea and Bomber Eyewear was born in Costa Mesa.
Tommy is inducted into the Jet Ski Hall of Fame. A legend officially recognized.
20 years later, Tommy returns to racing and wins again. Then '15. Then '16. Legends don't quit.
Still family-run. Still Costa Mesa. Still making stylish safety shades that float.
Today, our family-run business uses this patented foam lining technology to offer water sports enthusiasts, fishermen and everyone in between eyewear that is comfortable, durable, stylish and able to float.
Our eyewear comes equipped with patented snug-fit floating technology — enabling a super comfy and secure fit, along with scratch-resistant lenses available in polarized, photochromic, bifocals, blue-light blocking, hydrophobic de-centered, optically correct and anti-fog options.
Costa Mesa, California — Since '97

All of our Safety Line glasses meet ANSI Z87+ impact-resistant standards and feature polycarbonate lenses with safety markings on both frames and lens.
Our flexible frames, coupled with Bomber's patented foam lining technology, make our eyewear ideal for hours of comfortable wear while keeping them lightweight. Wrap-around styles provide added protection against debris, wind and glare.
For over twenty years and till this day, Tommy continues to channel his performance driven lifestyle into his eyewear designs — complete with safety features that are original, highly functional, and stylish — that also happen to float.
We know everyone has their favorite pricey sunglasses from some hot designer brand. We're not here to replace those.
But instead of risking your faves when working construction, fishing, boating, paddling, playing in the water, or working on that home improvement project — put ours on.
It's kind of like 'insurance' against both eye injury and losing your favorite pair in the water or on the job.
And who knows, we just might become your new favorite shades.
Float On.
