The Ultimate Guide to Anti-Fog Lenses

If you've been with us for a hot minute, you've probably heard us throw the word "anti-fog" around. But what's the point of anti-fog safety glasses? What are anti-fog glasses?

Anti-fog glasses refer to sunglasses and safety glasses that have been treated with a special lens coating. Specifically, our anti-fog glasses reduce the amount of condensation that gathers on your glasses, making them "fog up" on sweaty days or when you move between a hot room and the cold outdoors. 

Okay, so how do anti-fog lenses work? We can't tell you all the juicy (proprietary) details, but the simple version is that we use a unique chemical compound to prevent water from beading on the surface of your lenses. (AKA, the "fog" that pops up when your face gets sweaty or you enter a humid room.) 

Wanna know a cool fun fact about anti-fog glasses? The original anti-fog lens coating was developed by NASA in the 1960s to keep astronauts' visors from fogging up. No, seriously -- they were a component in the 1960s-era Project Gemini missions, and we're just cool enough to be doing the same things as freakin' NASA. You know, no big deal.  

What are the benefits of anti-fog glasses?

Anti-fog glasses are extremely helpful for people who work in construction and similar industries. There's nothing worse than being in the middle of a great run of welding or pipe fitting only to have to take fifty gajillion breaks to clean and de-fog your glasses.

One thing to mention about anti-fog glasses is that they're not always perfect. (Even NASA has to keep putting their anti-fog treatments through extensive testing and tweaking.) In extreme cases of heat, humidity, or other fog-inducing circumstances, "anti"-fog can sometimes become "less"-fog.
